Mark Purser, DVM

Chief of Staff

Dr. Mark Purser became a veterinarian because of his love for all animals, especially dogs! Dr. Purser’s father wanted to become a veterinarian but did not have the opportunity due to World War II. Although his father wasn’t able to become a veterinarian, Dr. Purser was always surrounded by animals growing up: dogs, cats, birds, snakes, turtles, lizards, and more. Dr. Purser is a proud Aggie and attended Texas A&M University where he received both his Bachelor of Science degree in 1984 and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1988.

Dr. Purser opened Highland Knolls Veterinary Hospital in April 1999. Dr. Purser believes in and advocates for preventative medicine to keep pets healthy their entire lives, something his patients and their families greatly appreciate. Dr. Purser enjoys internal medicine cases and dentistry. Since opening its doors in 1999, the Katy Area Medical Group has constantly grown and expanded. Dr. Purser then opened Spring Green Pet Clinic in 2014.

Originally from Greenville, Mississippi, Dr. Purser and his wife call the Katy area home and hope to retire here someday. Dr. Purser married his wife Angela in May of 1991. Together, they have two children: their son, Chase who is married to Brandy, together they have two of Dr. Purser’s grandchildren, Madison and Brett; their daughter, Kristen who is married to Dylan, together they have Dr. Purser's youngest grandchild, Cassidy.  Just about anywhere Dr. Purser goes, you can typically find him with his constant companion and shadow, # (Hashtag, the mini Aussie). Dr. Purser and his wife also have a constant pack of four-legged family members: π (Pi), @e (Attie), and $.¢¢ (Cha-Ching). When Dr. Purser is not at the clinic caring for his patients, he enjoys Aggie sports as well as golfing and outdoor activities.

Dr. Purser has been very active in the veterinary community his entire career. He is a member and previous president of the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Purser is also a member and former delegate for the Board of Regents for the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. In addition, Dr. Purser has been an active member of the Harris County Veterinary Medical Foundation since 1997, where he served as the past president and is currently on the Board of Trustees.
